6 New Coronavirus Symptoms

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has added 6 (six) new possible symptoms of Novel Coronavirus.

Previously only fever, cough and shortness of breath were possible symptoms.

New Coronavirus symptoms can include Chills, Muscle Pain, Headache, Sore Throats and Loss of Taste & Smell

A pandemic of Novel Coronavirus has reached to more than 30 Lakhs and It has killed over 2 Lakhs people all over the world so far as on April 28, 2020. The actual number are believed to be much higher due to testing shortages, unreported cases and suspicions that some governments are hiding the actual numbers of cases diagnosed with COVID-19.

Symptoms for Novel Coronavirus

Symptoms as per WHO

World Health Organisation (WHO) states that COVID-19 affects different people in different ways. It is a respiratory disease and most infected people will develop mild to moderate symptoms and recover without requiring special treatment.  People who have underlying medical conditions and those over 60 years old have a higher risk of developing severe disease and death.

WHO specified the symptoms by classified into two parts:

A. Common Symptoms: It includes

  • Fever
  • Tiredness
  • Dry Cough

B. Other Symptoms: It includes

  • Shortness of breath
  • Aches and Pains
  • Sore throats
  • Diarrhoea, Nausea, Running Nose (In very few cases)

Symptoms as per Health Ministry of India

As per Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the most common symptoms of COVID-19 are fever, tiredness, and dry cough. Some patients may have aches and pains, nasal congestion, runny nose, sore throat or diarrhea. These symptoms are usually mild and begin gradually. Some people become infected but don’t develop any symptoms and don’t feel unwell.

Symptoms as per CDC

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has added 6 new possible coronavirus symptoms to its existing list. Earlier CDC has specified fever, cough and shortness of breath as symptoms of novel coronavirus. Now, CDC has updated its list of COVID-19 symptoms and six more potential symptoms of novel coronavirus have been added. As per CDC, Symptoms may appear 2-14 days after exposure to the virus. Those Additional symptoms are:

  • Chills
  • Repeated shaking with chills
  • Muscle pain
  • Headache
  • Sore throat
  • New loss of taste or smell

Older adults and people who have severe underlying medical conditions like heart or lung disease or diabetes seem to be at higher risk for developing more serious complications from COVID-19 illness.

The CDC clarified that the above list is not all inclusive. The CDC also states that if you have any of these “emergency warning signs” for COVID-19 then get medical attention immediately:

  • Trouble breathing
  • Persistent pain or pressure in the chest
  • New confusion or inability to arouse
  • Bluish lips or face
